The Tor Gardens project demonstrates Handrail Creations’ expertise in delivering bespoke balustrade solutions for luxury residential properties. Working on an impressive six-storey home in Kensington, we designed, manufactured and installed a sweeping oak handrail and contemporary steel balustrade to create two striking feature staircases.
Spanning more than 40 metres of bespoke balustrade across both staircases, the finished installation combines precision engineering with traditional craftsmanship to complement the home’s elegant architectural design.
Bespoke Balustrade Design with a Curved Handrail
The client’s vision was to create a modern staircase with clean lines and a seamless appearance. To achieve this, we designed a bespoke balustrade featuring individually manufactured tapered steel spindles fixed directly into the underside of the curved handrail.
This innovative balustrade design removes the need for a visible metal core rail, resulting in a lighter, more refined aesthetic while maintaining exceptional strength and structural integrity. The sweeping curved handrail creates a continuous flow throughout the staircase, enhancing both the functionality and visual impact of the space.
Precision Manufactured Oak Handrails
Every oak handrail was digitally modelled using advanced 3D surveying and CAD software before manufacturing. By creating a complete digital model of each staircase, our team was able to machine every component with exceptional accuracy.
The tapered steel spindles were turned on a specialist lathe and cut to their exact dimensions in our workshop, ensuring a precise fit during installation. Once installed, each oak handrail was carefully French polished by hand on site, creating a rich finish that perfectly complemented the surrounding oak flooring and interior detailing.

The Tor Gardens project was delivered in collaboration with Bancroft Heath and Layzell Architects, with Handrail Creations responsible for the bespoke balustrade design, manufacture and installation. By combining advanced CNC technology with skilled craftsmanship, we produced a high-quality staircase solution that met the exact design specification while simplifying installation on site.
