The exceptional craftsmanship of Handrail Creations at St. Hilda’s College in Oxford.
Below you will see the striking Oak mopstick handrail we designed, manufactured, and installed in the main staircase of the college’s new building.
Over 50 metres of handrail were custom made and fitted to both sides of the staircase, providing a secure and elegant support for the students, faculty, and visitors of St. Hilda’s College. Spanning across four floors, the handrail leads to a breathtaking roof terrace, offering panoramic views of Oxford.
One of the features of this project is the inclusion of tight ‘wreathing’ parts which really gives a high end feeling, rather than traditional mitre cuts. Each curve and contour was precision machined on our 5 axis CNC machines, with all ends pre-machined for alignment, speeding up the installation time.
It was finished in-house with a fire-proof class-0 lacquer. This protective coating not only enhances the natural beauty of the Oak wood but also provides a hardwearing & durable coating which meets regulations for a commercial project.
