Fairfields
Residential Property
At ‘Fairfields,’ an exclusive residential development in Surrey, we had the privilege of manufacturing and installing unique brass ‘hooped’ balustrades and continuous wooden handrails for the feature staircases in four luxurious homes. Handrail Creations added a touch of sophistication to these exceptional properties.
Project Description:
To bring the stairs to life, we used our CNC machines to manufacture continuous wooden handrails precisely tailored to each staircase’s individual design. The staircases themselves, constructed from softwood, were installed by other contractors. Our comprehensive design process began with a 3D survey of each staircase in its unique setting, as no pre-existing drawings were available.
Each staircase, while sharing the same specifications, featured a slightly different shape, adding an element of uniqueness to each home.
Materials Used:
For the timber handrails, we selected sapele, which was meticulously French polished to achieve a rich, dark brown finish. To create a truly distinctive aesthetic, we electroplated the metal spindles with brass. Our design approach at ‘Fairfields’ aimed to strike a balance between striking visual impact and staying in line with current design trends. The incorporation of ‘hoop’ spindles effectively broke up the straight runs of the balustrade.
Manufacturing and Installation:
We engineered the handrails with pre-machined holes on the underside to seamlessly align with corresponding holes in the concrete stairs, creating a clean finish with no welding or ugly core rail. Our dedicated installation team completed in just over a week. Thanks to our unique design and fixing method, there was no need for newel posts to ensure structural stability.
Our team installed each house in 2 days, with our French polisher returning a week later to stain & seal the handrails. All spindles were pre-finished in our factory in Bolton.
Our client praised our commitment to quality, stating:
“We appreciate the focus on quality, and what we have seen on site so far is impressive.”
