Bespoke Balustrades for Residential Buildings
Our experience spans a wide range of residential properties, from private luxury homes and period properties to large-scale residential developments. We work closely with homeowners, architects, interior designers, contractors and developers to create balustrades for residential buildings that complement the wider architecture and interior design.
Each balustrade is designed and manufactured specifically for its intended space, allowing us to accommodate unusual staircase shapes, sweeping curves, complex geometries and individual design requirements that simply wouldn’t be possible with a standard off-the-shelf system.
Our residential balustrade projects include:
- Bespoke metal balustrades
- Timber and oak handrails
- Traditional timber balustrades
- Curved and continuous handrails
- Bespoke staircase designs
- Decorative spindle and baluster designs
- Hidden fixing systems
- Bespoke balustrades combining timber and metal

Curved and Continuous Handrails
Sweeping staircases call for handrails that flow seamlessly from floor to floor, with every curve calculated and every joint hand-finished to disappear into the run.
Tor Gardens: A sweeping oak handrail and curved handrail design, paired with a bespoke metal balustrade across two staircases in a six-storey Kensington home.
Fantail Stairs: A distinctive fan-shaped staircase built around a continuous curved handrail.
Sea House: A three-storey feature staircase with a bespoke steel balustrade and sapele handrails, curved to follow the stair’s full rise.
Cresswell Place, Sydenham Hill and Chester Terrace all showcase further examples of curved and continuous handrail design within London properties.
Oak and Timber Handrails
Nothing matches the warmth of natural timber on a staircase, and our joiners hand-finish every run to bring out the grain and achieve a smooth, continuous surface.
Fairfields: An exclusive Surrey residential development featuring bespoke brass balustrades and continuous sapele timber handrails across four luxury homes.
Cavendish, Boyne Mews and Broadoak each demonstrate our approach to oak and timber handrail craftsmanship, from hand-selected timber through to the final polished finish.
Steel and Contemporary Balustrades
For a cleaner, more architectural look, steel balustrades offer slim sightlines and structural strength, manufactured to fine tolerances and finished by hand to a flawless standard.
Faircross, Alderton, Ravenscourt and Princes Drive all feature contemporary steel balustrade designs with timber handrails, engineered for strength without compromising on visual lightness. These hybrid timber-and-metal balustrades are increasingly popular in period conversions.

Combining Design, Craftsmanship and Precision Manufacturing
Every residential project is approached individually, from the initial design and survey through to manufacturing, finishing and installation. We see this as two halves of the same process, working together rather than one replacing the other.
Our advanced 5-axis CNC machinery and CAD design allow us to manufacture complex curved forms, hidden fixing systems and continuous handrails with exceptional precision. This means components fit exactly as designed first time, tolerances are held consistently across an entire staircase run, and even the most intricate geometry can be reproduced accurately at scale. This is something that would be extremely difficult to achieve by hand alone. Where a project has been digitally surveyed in 3D, this same precision carries through from measurement to final component, reducing the risk of costly on-site adjustments.
That precision is only half the story, though. Once a component comes off the machine, it’s our craftsmen who bring it to life. Timber is hand-finished to bring out the natural grain and achieve a smooth, continuous feel underhand. Joints are hand-fitted and polished until they disappear into the run, rather than being visible as separate sections. Metalwork is hand-detailed to remove any trace of the manufacturing process, and every component goes through a hands-on quality check before it leaves the workshop.
It’s the polishing, the fine detailing and the eye for a finish that a machine simply can’t judge. This is what gives a Handrail Creations staircase its premium, individual character. The result is a residential staircase that combines the accuracy of precision engineering with the quality and character of traditional craftsmanship.

What types of residential balustrades do you manufacture?
We manufacture a wide range of bespoke residential balustrades, including steel, timber and mixed-material designs. Our capabilities include contemporary metal balustrades, traditional timber designs, curved balustrades and bespoke systems with hidden fixings.
Do you manufacture balustrades for residential buildings?
Yes. We manufacture bespoke balustrades for residential buildings ranging from individual luxury homes and period properties to larger residential developments. Every balustrade is designed around the specific requirements of the project.
Can you design a bespoke residential staircase?
Yes. We provide bespoke staircase design and manufacturing solutions tailored to the property’s architecture, dimensions and aesthetic requirements. Our team can work from architectural drawings or carry out detailed digital surveys where required.
Can you manufacture curved handrails and balustrades?
Yes. Curved and continuous handrails are one of our specialisms. Our CNC machinery and 3D surveying capabilities let us calculate and manufacture complex curves to precise dimensions, so the handrail follows the exact line of the staircase rather than being pieced together from straight sections. Our craftsmen then hand-finish each joint so the whole run feels seamless underhand.
What materials can be used for residential balustrades?
We work with a range of materials including hardwoods, oak, sapele and steel. Materials can also be combined to create bespoke designs, such as timber handrails with steel balustrades.
Do you provide installation as well as manufacturing?
Yes. Depending on the project requirements, we can provide supply-only manufacturing or a complete service including surveying, design, manufacture, finishing and installation.
Can you work with architects and contractors?
Absolutely. We regularly collaborate with architects, interior designers, contractors and developers on bespoke residential projects, providing technical input and manufacturing expertise throughout the process.
Where can I see examples of your residential balustrades?
Our residential gallery showcases a wide range of completed projects, including bespoke balustrades, staircase designs, timber handrails and curved staircase installations. Individual project pages provide further details about the design, materials and manufacturing process.
